Our Business

We develop advanced biodegradable solutions that enable orthopedic/sports medicine surgeons to treat patients with meniscal damage more effectively.

An active and ageing population has increased the demand on healthcare budgets across the world. Increased leisure time has resulted in more sports-related injuries and longer life expectancy means that patients may need several surgical procedures, as an original injury progressively deteriorates over time. This is particularly true of damaged menisci. The established procedure for a torn meniscus is to simply cut away the damaged area. This can result in reduced pain and greater mobility in the first instance but nearly 20% go on to fail. Usually this results in successive surgical procedures culminating in a total knee replacement and almost certainly, the early onset of osteoarthritis.

Actifit® is a new biodegradable implant that can help promote the body's natural healing process and encourage the growth of new meniscus tissue. The results are very promising and we believe that in the long term Actifit® will:

  • continue to reduce knee pain

  • further increase patient activity levels

  • reduce or delay the need for a total knee replacement

  • reduce the total cost of care for insurers and healthcare providers by minimizing, or delaying, the need for further surgical procedures.

With Actifit®, Orthopedic/Sports medicine surgeons have a new option for the treatment of meniscus defects.

As a company, Orteq is committed to producing cutting-edge, biodegradable solutions that deliver faster, more economical solutions, benefitting patients, surgeons and healthcare providers.
